Attention Nembutal users: If you are currently using Nembutal for your animal research, please submit an amendment to your IACUC protocol to add an alternative or to justify the use of non-pharmaceutical-grade pentobarbital. More information was provided in an e-mail sent to all animal users.
Alternatives Search Help - A reference librarian in the Veterinary Library is available to help you to prepare a comprehensive search of the literature when it is required by the IACUC for your protocol. Cornell University policy requires that all teaching and research activities involving the use of vertebrate animals is reviewed and approved by the IACUC before any animals can be procured and work can begin. In addition to providing oversight over the animal care and use program in a variety of ways (Animal Care and Use Policy 1.4), the IACUC also serves as a resource to faculty, investigators, technicians, students, staff, and administrators, providing guidance in fulfilling the obligation to plan and conduct all animal use procedures with the highest scientific, humane and ethical principles.
Cornell University operates its Animal Care and Use program under the Animal Welfare Assurance A3347-01 on file with the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW).
